District of Columbia: school-choice funding for providers
We don't cover an education savings account in District of Columbia yet: the programs on ChoicePaid are ones where public education money pays private tutors, therapists, schools and vendors through a state platform. Below are the closest programs that do, and District of Columbia's status on the federal scholarship tax credit that starts in 2027.

Each program approves providers separately, so serving families across a state line means applying there too.
The federal scholarship tax credit in District of Columbia
- Beginning January 1, 2027, individual taxpayers may be able to claim a Federal Scholarship Tax Credit for cash contributions of up to $1,700 to Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs). A state must choose to participate and give the IRS its list of SGOs before taxpayers can donate to an SGO in that state and claim the credit.1
- District of Columbia was not on the IRS list of states participating in the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit for 2027 as of September 14, 2026. The IRS updates the list as more states elect to participate.1
What this means for providers will depend on how District of Columbia's scholarship granting organizations set up their scholarships. We'll add those rules as they're published.
