How we check program rules
A wrong answer about eligibility or payment costs a provider real money, so ChoicePaid works like a reference, not a blog. Here's the standard every page meets.
19
state guides published
290
cited rules across them
122
official pages referenced
Only official sources
Every requirement cites the program administrator's or the state's own published page: for example the Texas Comptroller's TEFA site, or the help center Odyssey publishes for the programs it runs. We don't cite blogs, forums, vendors or other directories.
Dated, and shown on the page
Each citation shows the date its source was last updated, and each guide shows the day we last checked every source on it. Our automated tests refuse to publish a rule without an official source and a date.
If we can't cite it, we don't publish it
Florida's Step Up For Students programs and several newer state programs don't publish their vendor rules where we can cite them reliably yet, so those guides stay in progress rather than filled with guesses. When a state only publishes a PDF handbook, as Arizona does, we cite the exact page.
We're not the program
ChoicePaid is independent and isn't affiliated with any state or administrator. We can't approve applications or release payments, and nothing here is legal or tax advice. When in doubt, the linked source is the final word.
Found something out of date?
Tell us through the contact form. We re-check it against the source and update the page and its date. Most recent full check: Oct 8, 2026.
