Getting paid through Oklahoma's Parental Choice Tax Credit
Oklahoma's Parental Choice Tax Credit has two parts. For private school students, families get a refundable credit for tuition and fees, paid by check mailed to the participating school. For homeschool students, families can claim up to $1,000 a year for qualified expenses, including academic tutoring, by sending the Tax Commission a copy of every receipt.

Who can apply
- Private schools that want to take part must register with the Oklahoma Tax Commission on OkTAP. Parents request an Enrollment Verification Number from the school for each student and submit it with their application.1
- Qualified homeschool expenses are tuition and fees for nonpublic online or in-person learning programs; academic tutoring by an individual or a private tutoring facility; textbooks, curriculum and instructional materials; and fees for nationally standardized assessments and the tutoring or prep courses for them.3
- Homeschool expenses don't include internet access or devices, equipment for sports, dance, music or other elective-type lessons or activities, memberships, or field trips.3
How you get paid
- 1Private schools: credit checks are mailed directly to the school, and families either pick up the check or sign it over to the school for tuition and fees.1
- 2Homeschool families must submit legible copies of all receipts for claimed expenses. The form records the vendor, a description, the date the expense was paid and the amount for each one.2
What trips providers up
- A qualified homeschool expense can't be claimed more than once, and expenses don't count for a year in which the student was enrolled in a public or private school for two semesters.2
When families pay you directly
- Homeschool families pay you and claim the credit at tax time with copies of your receipts.2
