About First Frets
First Frets has helped thousands of students of all ages learn the guitar and ukulele! Learn from the comfort of home, at a fraction of the cost of in-person lessons. Short, bite-sized video lessons (most lessons are around 5 minutes long), take students from beginner to advanced, one simple step at a time. Our curriculum also includes lesson sheets, skills checklists, and completion certificates that can be printed and signed. Many students use our courses to fulfill fine arts credit requirements for their organization.
As published on the Florida list.
How First Frets gets paid
Families order and pay through the Step Up For Students portal. Here's what happens on the provider's side, from Step Up For Students's official rules. ChoicePaid doesn't handle payments.
- Families can't request direct payment to a provider until after the service has been rendered.1
- Families can claim reimbursement for services paid up to three months in advance; longer prepayments need your signed statement that the payment is non-refundable.2
- Families pay providers directly through EMA, or pay out of pocket and request reimbursement from the scholarship account.1
Before you book
- 1Check that First Frets has an approved offering for what you need in the Step Up For Students portal. Being on the list doesn't mean every service is approved.
- 2Ask what's included, the total price and any fees before you commit.
- 3Ask how they'll bill: through the Step Up For Students portal or another way. The Step Up For Students guide explains the rules.
- 4Paying out of pocket for reimbursement? Keep an itemized receipt. Check a receipt
