What Mississippi ESA funds can pay for

Mississippi's ESA reimburses families for a set list of costs, paid quarterly to the parent or, if the parent approves, to the provider. Every request needs itemized documentation.

If your service or product isn't on the list, families can't buy it with program funds, however good it is. Check before you apply.

School and college1

  • Tuition and academic fees at an eligible school (other fees only if they meet the student's educational needs)
  • Dual enrollment tuition, fees and textbooks for a high school student

Teaching and therapies1

  • Tutoring by a certified or licensed tutor
  • Educational services and therapies from a licensed or certified practitioner, including licensed or certified aides

Materials and tests1

  • Textbooks for academic coursework
  • Curriculum and the supplemental materials it requires
  • Standardized and alternate assessments, AP exams and college admission exams
  • Up to $50 a year in consumable school supplies
  • Computers and software, if a school, tutor, provider or medical professional confirms in writing they're essential to the student's goals

Worth knowing

  • Tutoring and therapies can't be paid for students who are homeschooled or enrolled in public school.1
  • Technology bought with ESA funds must be donated to a public school or library when the student leaves the program.1
