What INESA funds can pay for

Indiana's INESA Handbook sets out what Education Scholarship Account funds can pay for, category by category. Providers invoice the family's account, and the Treasurer of State approves or denies each expense; it can't reimburse families.

If your service or product isn't on the list, families can't buy it with program funds, however good it is. Check before you apply.

School tuition and fees1

  • Tuition and fees at a private, public, magnet or charter school, microschool, business or individual serving the student
  • Application, enrollment and registration fees; lab, facility, supply and required textbook fees
  • Courses and tutoring fees charged by the school, and programs or staffing in the student's education plan

Public school services2

  • Special education services under the student's IEP or service plan
  • State assessments required for the student's grade level

Teaching, therapy and aides3

  • Tutoring or teaching from a credentialed individual, facility or business
  • Paraprofessionals or educational aides with an approved credential
  • Occupational therapy and other educational therapies under the student's plan or prescribed by the treating physician

Materials, camps and travel4

  • Books, software and digital content bought through the ClassWallet Marketplace (subscriptions must be monthly)
  • Supplementary materials such as STEM kits, manipulatives, calculators, workbooks and school supplies
  • Training programs and camps focused on academic, vocational or life skills
  • Rides from a service provider, public transit or school bus, up to $750 a year ($1,500 with a waiver)

Not eligible

  • Computers, laptops and tablets, printers, TVs and game consoles, and multi-month subscriptions.5
  • Late, cancelled or missed-appointment fees, meals, uniforms and clothing, musical instruments, and payment processing fees.1
  • Medical and other non-educational services such as chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, dental and eye exams.6
  • Toys, furniture, sensory and calming products, and therapy aids such as balls, putty and balance boards.7
  • Mileage reimbursement, gas cards and vehicle costs.4

Worth knowing

  • Extracurricular activities qualify only when provided by an accredited school, and therapies are approved for students with a disability, not siblings.8
  • The list isn't exhaustive: the Treasurer of State can approve or deny items not listed, so itemize every invoice.9
